Men's Cross Country Favored to Win AMCC Title, Women Picked Second

GIBSONIA, Pa. \u2014 The Frostburg State men's cross country team is the favorite to once again win the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference title, while the Bobcat women have been picked second according to a vote by the league's head coaches.

The Bobcat men have dominated the AMCC, winning seven crowns in the conference's eight-year existence. FSU will be seeking its fifth straight title this fall.

Penn State Behrend, which won the championship in 2000, was picked to finish second this season, while Penn State Altoona was third.

Frostburg State sophomore Curt Ruble (Mineral Wells, W.Va./Parkersburg South) was voted this year's Preseason Runner of the Year.

Ruble took home AMCC Runner of the Year honors last season after finishing first at the AMCC championship meet. He was also named the AMCC Runner of the Week four times last year.

On the women's side, Penn State Behrend was picked to defend its title, followed by Frostburg State and Penn State Altoona.

The FSU women have dominated the AMCC as well, winning six AMCC titles in eight years. This year's squad will be led by junior Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson), who was voted the Preseason Runner of the Year.

She finished third at the 2004 AMCC championship meet and is the highest finishing returner in the conference this season.

The Bobcats will open their season Saturday, September 3 at the Shippensburg University Tri-Meet.
