Women's Basketball Falls to Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, PA \u2014 Candice Eyerman tied her own school record with nine three-pointers en route to scoring a game-high 33 points to lead Waynesburg to a 70-57 win over Frostburg State Tuesday night at the Marisa Fieldhouse.

The Bobcats, who dropped their fifth straight game to fall to 5-6, showed their rust from not having played in 23 days, shooting just 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from the field in the opening half.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets hit a sizzling 51.9 percent (14-of-27) in the first stanza to build a commanding 38-22 advantage at intermission.

Waynesburg (7-5) came out firing and quickly opened a 16-2 lead behind 11 straight points from Eyerman.

FSU used a 6-0 run to close to within 16-8, but the Yellow Jackets took control with a 17-7 spurt over the next five minutes to open a 33-15 lead.

Waynesburg cooled off in the second half, sinking just 9-of-27 shots, but it was enough to keep the Bobcats at bay.

The Yellow Jacket lead hovered near 20 in the opening minutes of the second period before FSU closed to within 51-38 on a basket by senior Kim Faust (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin) with 10:17 to play.

However, Eyerman sank three three-pointers to spark a 13-2 stretch that helped Waynesburg push its lead to 64-40 with 7:02 remaining.

FSU made a final charge, using a 12-0 run to close to pull to within 64-52 with 3:35 left, but Eyerman drilled her final three-pointer of the night to end any thoughts of a Bobcat comeback.

The Yellow Jackets drained 11-of-24 from three-point range, while the Bobcats hit just 3-of-20 shots from behind the arc.

Sophomore Tracey Little (LaVale, Md./Allegany) led FSU with 15 points and nine rebounds, while True added 11 points and seven caroms. Faust and fellow senior Holly Myers (York, Pa./West York) had 10 points each.

Emily Williams was the only other Waynesburg player to reach double-figures with 10 points.

The Bobcats open Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action on Saturday when they visit Lake Erie for a 2:00 pm contest.
