Track and Field Turns in Strong Performances at Denison Invitational

GRANVILLE, OHIO \u2014 Junior Dante Myles (Hyattsville, Md./Archbishop Carroll) set a Mitchell Athletic Center record in the 55-meter dash, and classmate Maria Ferguson (Fairmount Heights, Md./Laurel) qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in the 400-meter run to highlight strong performances by the Frostburg State men's and women's track and field teams Saturday at the Denison University Big Red Invitational.

Myles won the 55-meter dash in 6.35 seconds to establish a new facility mark. His time was also just .04 seconds shy of the FSU indoor record set by Joseph Barber in 1987.

Ferguson captured the 400-meter dash in 60.39 seconds and, shortly after, placed second in the 55-meter dash (7.37). She has now qualified for the 55-, 200- and 400-meter events at the ECAC Championships to be held May 2 at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.

Junior Karold Gray (Bowie, Md./Southern) won the 200-meter dash in 22.99 seconds and placed fifth in the 55-meter dash in 6.78 seconds.

Sophomore Travis Bouldin (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) won the triple jump with a mark of 43-3.5 and tied for second in the high jump with a height of 6-0.

Freshman Leon Tucker (Deale, Md./Southern) enjoyed a solid meet, taking third in the 200-meter dash (23.97) and finishing fourth in the 55-meter dash (6.78).

In the 400-meter run, sophomore Dwayne Dabney (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) placed second in an impressive 51.46 seconds, while freshman Greg Lambert (Columbia, Md./Hammond) finished third with a time of 51.72 seconds.

Both the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays turned in strong performances.

On the men's side, Gray, Lambert, Myles and junior Tyque McCarthy (Bowie, Md./Central) combined for a first-place finish in 3:28.53.

The women's team of freshman Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), Ferguson, freshman Mysel Abrokwo (Takoma Park, Md./Blair) and sophomore Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) finished second in a season-best time of 4:15.87.
