Men's Tennis Edged by Penn State Behrend

ERIE, PA - Frostburg State was bested by conference foe Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon, 5-4. The Bobcats split the singles lineup with the Lions, including a three-set win by senior Justin Stephens (Southern Garrett/Oakland, Md.) at the No. 1 slot, but were edged 2-1 in doubles action.

In doubles play senior Stephens and junior Gary Lyst (Blair/Silver Spring, Md.) dropped Ryan Deimel and John Marini 8-3, while seniors Pete Della-Luna (Longmeadow/Moshpee, Mass.) and Dustin Robinson (Leonardtown/Leonardtown, Md.) lost a close 9-7 battle to Jon Barber and Brian Espin at second doubles..

At the No. 3 doubles flight, junior Jake Helms (North County/Linthicum, Md.) and freshman Andrew Holt (Southern/Harwood, Md.) were narrowly ousted 8-6 at the third doubles position.

The Bobcats (3-8, 1-1 AMCC) got three singles wins.

Stephens won a nail-biter against rival Deimel at No. 1, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(6), Lyst dropped Marini 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 and Robinson downed Espin at the fourth slot, 6-3, 6-3.

The Lions (11-7, 4-0 AMCC) picked up three wins when Barber downed Della-Luna at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3, Fiorenzo dropped Holt 6-0, 7-6 at No. 5 and Meyer ousted Helms 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6.

Frostburg State returns to action Monday April 5th when it faces Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg at 12:30 pm.
