Frostburg State University Celebrates Homecoming 2014

Homecoming season is here and Frostburg State University will celebrate from Thursday, Oct. 16, to Sunday, Oct. 19. Past, present and future students are invited to show their school spirit and participate in the fun and varied events \u2013 like the pep rally, rock show, football game and Frostburg Finale \u2013 during homecoming weekend.

The weekend will begin with the annual pep rally, where the 2014 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned, on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.

Friday's events will begin at 9 a.m. with the Career Expo, when FSU alums will give presentations across campus. Current students can explore career possibilities and past students can see what their fellow alums are doing with their educations. A Career Expo luncheon will be held at 12:15 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall in the Lane University Center. The deadline to register for the luncheon is Oct. 14. For more information, call Career Services at 301-687-4403.

From 1 to 4 p.m. at the Roper Gallery in the Fine Arts building, art lovers can view an exhibition, "The Tie That Binds," and meet the artists. From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., the new Bobcat Athletics Stadium Building will be dedicated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

At 5 p.m., the Bobcat Hall of Fame cocktail hour, induction ceremony and dinner will begin in the Main Arena of the Cordts PE Center. The Hall of Fame will welcome four new inductees, commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1984 women's field hockey team's first NCAA win and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the women's basketball program. The event costs $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and younger.

Homecoming-goers can choose between two exciting events that evening: a play about a monster-fighting Dungeons & Dragons player at 7:30 p.m. or a concert by the classic rock band Firefall at 9 p.m. Opening night of the action-packed comedy-drama "She Kills Monsters" will be in the F. Perry Smith Studio Theatre of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $6 for students and $12 for general admission. The Firefall concert will be in the Manicur Assembly Hall in the Lane University Center. Tickets are $10 for students and start at $30 for adults.

Homecoming attendees can start Saturday off right with the Jim Anderson Memorial Baseball Breakfast at 8 a.m. in Lane Manicur Hall. The breakfast costs $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. For football fanatics, tailgating, held in the stadium parking lot, also begins at 8 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. There will be free parking on a first-come, first-serve basis as well as giveaways and refreshments at the Alumni Tent.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., there will be refreshments, prizes, face painting and more in the lobby of the Lane University Center. Campus tours begin at 11 a.m. in Lane's upper lobby. At 11:30 a.m., Susan Eisel Drive will be unveiled at the intersection of University Drive and what was previously called Stadium Drive.

At 1 p.m., the Bobcat football team kicks off against Ithaca College at Bobcat Stadium. Admission to the game is free. Also at 1 p.m., the exhibition of "The Tie That Binds" is open again to view.

From 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., the fun-filled Frostburg Finale will be in the Lane University Center, thrown by the FSU Office of Alumni Relations. There will be a DJ, karaoke, arcade games, hors d'oeuvres and more. The event costs $10, and attendees must be 21. Students can enjoy the Student Government Association dance in the Cordts Main Arena from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. The dance costs $10 for FSU students and $20 for guests.

The Alumni Association board will meet Sunday at 9:30 a.m. in the Lane Center Atkinson Room (232). The Men's Alumni Basketball Game will begin at 11 a.m. in the Cordts Main Arena. A worship service will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Frost Hall's Cook Chapel. Then, at noon, the Student Government Association will hold its Big Event; everyone is invited to help clean up the streets of Frostburg. At 2 p.m., the men's soccer game against Salisbury starts.
